Final Autumn Photos?

It’s very odd that a week without a glimmer of sunshine didn’t bother me at all. There has been heavy cloud cover all week, but it has also been very calm, and although temperatures are dropping, it’s been pleasant outdoors. Midweek I finally managed to fit in time for a walk in the park where I gathered autumn leaves for some photos. Needless to say, the photos haven’t been taken, and spring bulbs are still in their boxes in the garage. It seems life has kept me busy once again.

All that aside, the weather was perfect to capture a few photos, so here’s the pick for Six on Saturday.

Calm, Sunny, Beautiful

This final full week of September has been glorious. The sun has shone its heart out and the winds have been calm, barely there. Still, it has been cool enough for only a lightweight jacket in the mornings, and just warm enough to throw it aside in the afternoons. You might think that I have taken advantage of this week of joyful weather to work like a Trojan in the garden, but you would be wrong. I’ve done little more than check in on a few cuttings, pull a few weeds, and remove most of the Cosmos. I have though, been doing other things.

The Cosmos plants would have continued for a few more weeks, but they were starting to look a little scrappy, and I needed their space for spring bulbs that were delivered yesterday. They’ve been wonderful this year, but it was time to say goodbye.

Sweltering

It’s just a quick post from me today as I’m heading out to a Family History Event. It’s been a hectic week, and tomorrow my daughter and her family from Aberdeenshire will be arriving for their annual July visit. I know they are hoping for better weather than we had last year, but I think there might be rain from Monday onwards. Today, it’s going to be hot, or perhaps ‘sweltering’ might be a more descriptive word; perhaps it’s best that I’m going to be indoors for much of the day!

Early Summer Showtime

Roses, Peonies, Clematis, and many perennials are now starting to put on their summer show. The weather unfortunately is not. It has completely ignored the ‘Summer’s Here’ command for the sun to shine and temperatures to rise. It’s been a rainy and cold week, with strong winds that have left damaged plants behind in many gardens. Snow in the hills is being forecast – but to be honest, that’s not unusual for Scotland. Skiers will have fun. All is not gloom though as we’ve had a couple of dry days this week (or part-days), enough for me to get out with the camera and search for hardy survivors. Just enough to fill the six requirements for this week’s Six on Saturday.

I’m having problems with the WordPress slideshow at the moment; it’s also affecting previous posts, so for the moment, I’m only posting single images.

Autumn Sun

Autumn has arrived for those who mark their gardening season by the meteorological calendar. Despite the appearance of autumn in my garden since the end of July, I’m loving the sunshine and warmth that have unexpectedly arrived in my little corner of the planet. After all my complaints about the awful summer, I’m making the most of these five days of gloriously warm sunshine (24C/75F today!), appreciating the change and leaving my cosy scarves and gloves firmly in the drawer.

It’s Six on Saturday today and here we have six garden subjects that I’ve selected from the garden’s dwindling supply of plants.
