I’m very lucky to live in a warm cosy home, big enough to share with my visiting family, though now that my family has expanded quite a bit it’s not big enough when they all decide to come and stay at the same time!
“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”
Edith Sitwell
I’ve got to be honest, I enjoy my home comforts, and one of the joys of winter is being able to snuggle up with a warm blanket in the evening, doing nothing other than watching a bit of tv or browsing through garden magazines and plant catalogues.
My husband and I are retired, and the daily schedule, to a certain extent is flexible. There are all the usual domestic duties to take care of on a day to day basis, so while home comforts are a winter indulgence, I feel that life is just too busy and precious to indulge too much.
There’s still plenty of work waiting to be done right outside those cosy indoor rooms that we cherish. Perhaps a fence needs repairing or a path is becoming unsafe, there are violas to be deadheaded, roses to be tied in, spring-flowering bulbs in pots to be tended and I’m sure I could find some plants to take hardwood cuttings from.
At this time of year, I find that I look forward to being able to throw off the winter comforts, step out into the cold air and start working in the garden again…don’t you?

I didn’t realise that I hadn’t linked it.š That should be it now – you can let me know if it doesn’t work. Thanks for alerting me!
