Farewell 2024!

Wishing you all a garden full of beautiful colour and heavenly perfume in 2025!

Bringing our gardens back to life is only a dream at this time of the year—but there is little to stop us from enjoying that dream. Seed, bulb and plant catalogues are popping through the letterbox and it’s a treat to sit and flick through the pages on a cold winter night, sparking inspiration and indulging in dreams of a perfect garden! I’m sure most of us are the same, we always end up with far more dream plants than will fit in our borders, right? But…there’s always room for a few more plants in the garden?

Purple, White and a Splash of Orange

This will be my last Six on Saturday for a few weeks. Next week I’ll be busy doing final preparations and starting to pack for a trip to the US to visit one of our daughters and her family.

The biggest job will be in the garden – trying to get the remaining plants into the ground, moving potted plants from their sunny areas into more shady areas, and leaving loads of instructions for various family members on how to look after everything.

Six on Saturday 2020 26-09

Our overnight temperatures dropped to 3C & 4C during the past few nights, and tonight is forecast to be a very cold 1C (33.8F). Brrr… I hope the dahlias can cope with this, it’s still September and I’d like to have them flowering in the garden for a few more weeks yet. I checked on D. ‘Chat Noir’ on Thursday evening when I went out to close up the greenhouse and I was so excited to see it covered in masses of buds – some ready to open. Just imagine what a display that would be if they were to open together…I can dream, can’t I?
